Invitation to the opening of the African Fiscal Forum

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Nhlanhla Nene and Mr Sanjeev Gupta, Deputy-Director, Fiscal Affairs Department, IMF will speak at the opening session of the African Fiscal Forum.

The financial crisis and the Eurozone debt crisis have illustrated the importance of fiscal buffers in managing an economic downturn. Currently, governments face the task of dealing with large fiscal adjustment needs in an uncertain global growth environment. For many African countries the fiscal space is becoming limited.

The forum will therefore, examine how African countries manage fiscal risks in the context of global uncertainties and reduced fiscal space.
