The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), in conjunction with the Specialist Committee on Company Law (SCCL), invites businesses, law practitioners, government officials and any other entity or organisation affected by companies legislation to a Company Law Symposium on 1 March 2013 at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng.
The purpose of the symposium is to discuss the impact of the Companies Act, provide feedback on implementation, and deliberate on business rescue.
Speakers will include: Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies, who will talk about the importance of company law in the South African economy; Mr Trevor Norwitz from the United States, who will touch on statutory mergers and acquisitions; and Mr Phil Mindlin, also from the US, who will focus on the significance of business rescue.
The SCCL is a statutory body established under the Companies Act of 2008 and advises the Minister of Trade and Industry on implementation of the Act.
