International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, who also serves the co-chairperson of South Africa-Russia Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), will host her ITEC counterpart, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr Sergey Donskoy, in Pretoria on 3 February 2013 for an ITEC Co-Chairpersons meeting.
The ITEC is a bilateral cooperation mechanism between South Africa and the Russian Federation that meets annually in order to strengthen mutually beneficial economic, commercial and social relations as well as technical cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting presents an opportunity for the Ministers to follow-up on decisions taken during the 11th ITEC meeting held in Moscow on 12 to 13 November 2013. The Ministers will finalise priority projects and agreements that will be concluded during the Official Visit of President Vladimir Putin in March 2013.
The agreements under consideration are in the following fields: agriculture; education; energy; fisheries; justice, minerals resources, science and technology, and transport.
The priority sectors for ITEC are: agriculture, forestry and fisheries; education and skills development; energy; justice; mineral resources; science and technology; trade, investment and banking; and transport.
