International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has arrived in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to participate in the 25th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), scheduled for 22 to 24 June 2014.
The Executive Council Meeting is at Ministerial level and is taking place ahead of the AU Summit, scheduled for 25 to 27 June 2014.
The theme of the summit is "Year of Agriculture and Food Security: Transforming Africa's agriculture for shared prosperity and improved livelihoods through harnessing opportunities for inclusive growth and sustainable development." The theme coincides with the 10th year celebration of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
South Africa reaffirms its commitment to the development of the agricultural sector and celebrates 2014 as the Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa, to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the CAADP.
The Executive Council will also consider, amongst others, the adoption of the Agenda 2063 framework; peace and security issues on the Continent; Africa's common position on the post-2015 development agenda; as well as NEPAD-related issues.
