ICASA is launching the Disability Consultative Forum

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa is launching the Disability Consultative Forum whose main purpose is to advice the Authority about disability issues and to recommend their inclusion in the ICT regulatory agenda. The Disability Consultative Forum will see the creation of a platform in which stakeholders in the disability sector, electronic communications, broadcasting and postal sectors will get to engage and consult about issues and services affecting persons with disabilities.

The establishment of this Forum follows the successful hosting of the Disability Summit by the Authority in March 2011. The Summit resolved, among others, that the Authority must establish the Disability Consultative Forum comprised of the disability representatives and ICT industry stakeholders with the purpose of creating a platform for:
  • dialogue and sharing of disability related information with the Authority, licensees, manufacturers and government
  • providing feedback on inclusivity, accessibility, availability and affordability of services to the regulator, government, licensees and manufacturers.

The launch of the Disability Consultative Forum which draws participation from industry stakeholders, disability sector and electronic communications services licensees shall be held as follows:

Venue: Emperors Palace
Date: 10 May 2013
Time: 11h00 to 13h00

The Disability Consultative Forum will add more value by assisting the Authority in monitoring and providing advice on licensee's non-compliance with the regulations that promote and protects the rights of persons with disabilities to access ICT services.
