ICASA convenes oral hearings on the State of Competition into the ICT sector

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa hereby invites the media and other stakeholders to public hearings to be held in respect of a high level Inquiry in the State of Competition in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.

It is the Authority’s view that the ICT sector has been, and continues to undergo rapid technological changes with far reaching implications for the local and international industries. One of the areas in which these changes are more pronounced is in the competitiveness of the electronic communications, broadcasting and postal sectors and the assumption that greater competition will lead to reduction in the cost to communicate.

Over and above the submissions received when the Authority published a gazette for comments, ICASA has now decided to convene oral hearings on this process.

The hearings will be held as follows:
Date: 1 to 3 October 2014
Venue: ICASA Head Office,
Block C Presentation Room
164 Katherine Street
Sandton

The detailed schedule of hearings is available on the ICASA website (www.icasa.org.za)
