Hyundai to launch R110 million assembly plant in Benoni

Members of the media are invited to the launch of Hyundai South Africa’s (HASA) new assembly plant for 5 and 6 ton trucks at its Commercial Vehicles Site in Apex in Benoni.

Date: 4 September 2014
Time: 11h00 for 11h30
Venue: 399 Sasolburg Place, Sasolburg Road, Apex Industrial, Apex,
Benoni

The Deputy Director-General responsible for Industrial Policy Development at the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), Mr Garth Strachan will address the occasion on behalf of Minister Rob Davies.

HASA is a joint venture company between Hyundai Motor Corporation of Korea (HMC) and Associated Motor Holdings (AMH), a division of Imperial Holdings.

The new vehicles, specifically geared for the local and Africa markets, will initially be assembled in semi-knockdown (SKD) format. Worth noting, however, is that an important element of localisation has already been put in place in the form of a supply agreement between HASA and the 1st-tier supply bodybuilding plant operated by Taylormade Truck Bodies (Pty) Ltd.

In close cooperation with HASA, the dti looks forward to a phased transition towards complete knockdown (CKD) production in the medium term future.

RSVPs should be directed to Bongani Lukhele via email: BLukhele@thedti.gov.za or 079 5083 457.
