The Department of Home Affairs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will on Wednesday, 20 June 2018 commemorate World Refugee Day.
World Refugee Day seeks to promote social cohesion among refugees, the migrant community and citizens while highlighting the mutual benefits of migration and the responsibility of protection that South Africa has towards refugees. In this regard, the commemorations seek encourage co-operation among partners to minimise the risk of migration and the vulnerabilities of asylum seekers and refugees.
Minister Malusi Gigaba will lead a Fun Walk and later deliver a keynote address at the main commemoration.
