Journalists are invited to a briefing session on inauguration of the South African Dental Technicians Council in terms of the Dental Technicians Act, 1979 (Act No. 19 of 1979) (The Act) amended, to regulate the profession of dental technicians and dental technologists as well as provide for matters associated therewith. This is part of ensuring sustainability of the profession and that the profession is representative of all the communities of the country.
The Ministry of Health has appointed the new South African Dental Technicians Council (SADTC) for a five (5) year term of office, effective from 3 September 2o13. The National Health Act, 2003 (Act No. 61 of 2003), amended, provides for a transformed national health system for South Africa and empowers the Minister of Health to put in place mechanisms and interventions in place to ensure that the constitutional right of access to health for all is realised. The SADTC, established in terms of this Act is one of the instruments to ensure the progressive realisation of this right.
