Health Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi will be joined by Acting Premier, Paul Sebegoe and Health MEC, Dr. Magome Masike to officially open the 200 bed Brits District Hospital on Friday,4 April 2014. The facility is a replacement hospital, which has seen the demolition of the old structure in 2008, to give way for the state-of-the-art building.
The construction of Brits Hospital was completed and practically handed over on July 2013. The first group of patients were admitted into the hospital on 1 October 2013.
Following the relocation of patients from the makeshift to the new building, the hospital has progressively added a number of new services onto its package of care to step up the hospital services.
Services at the new include accident, emergency and crisis centre; surgical and medical wards; paediatric and neonatal high care, kangaroo mother care, X-ray, step down facility; maternity, theater, mortuary and laboratory services.
The first of its kind high tech hospital will see Health MECs from KwaZulu-Natal and Free State honouring the event to come and bench mark the new health technology advances.
