The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, together with the North West MEC for Health, Mr Sello Lehari, will lead a commemorative event to mark World Mental Health Day on Saturday, 24 October in the North West Province. The event forms part of a series of countrywide and global activities meant to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.
The event will be held under the theme: “Lived experiences heard: Real voices, real change,” which underscores the importance of listening to and centring the voices of people with lived experience of mental health conditions, their families and caregivers. It affirms that meaningful change in mental health systems must be informed by real experiences of those affected, including challenges related to access to care, stigma, discrimination, social support and recovery.
The event will bring together government leaders, health professionals, civil society organisations, mental health advocates, community members and persons with lived experience to reflect on progress, identify gaps, and strengthen collective action towards accessible, dignified and person-centred mental health services.
