Health commemorates World Diabetes Day, 14 Nov

Inter-Provincial World Diabetes Day Commemoration – “Cycling for Wellness”

The Department of Health will this year observe World Diabetes Day on 14 November 2023 through an inter-provincial cycling challenge between North West and Gauteng provinces among other activities.

The Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo together with Gauteng Health and Wellness MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko and North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha will lead the commemoration event to raise awareness about diabetes and other non-communicable diseases, highlighting the importance of prevention, management, and support for those affected.

Activities of the day will commence with a 40-kilometer inter-provincial cycling challenge, where 100 enthusiastic cyclists are expected to participate. This cycling challenge serves as a powerful symbol of unity and determination in the fight against diabetes. Participants will cycle for wellness to draw attention to the importance of physical activity and its positive impact on diabetes prevention and management. In addition to the cycling challenge, a 5-kilometer walk will also take place to raise awareness about non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, and encourages individuals to embrace an active lifestyle.
