Hand-over of accessible computer (ICT) centre to Temogo Special School

The Deputy Minister of Women Children and People with Disabilities, Hon. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, in partnership with MTN Foundation, invites the media to the hand-over of accessible computer (ICT) centre to Temogo Special School for learners with intellectual disabilities.

Schools for learners with disabilities are commonly challenged by lack of resources and infrastructure. The Office of the Deputy Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities and MTN South Africa Foundation have formed a partnership to establish accessible computer laboratories with specialised equipment that is responsive to the special needs of blind and partially sighted learners.

Temogo School for leaners with intellectual disabilities was identified as one of the special schools without a computer laboratory equipped with specialised software. This challenge led to children with intellectual disabilities at Temogo School to leave school without IT/Computer skills which is a disadvantage and affected their performance going forward.

Venue: Temogo Special School, 214 Buiten Street, Mogwase, North West

“We identified the needs and challenges of Temogo Special School for learners with intellectual disabilities through our partnership with the Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities.

We realised that we needed to help the school achieve its mission to provide learners with quality education and assist in developing their potential by purchasing and donating the equipment that they required. We hope the donation aids the school in becoming an effective and efficient centre for learning” said Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, MTN SA Foundation General Manager.
