The Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) together with the Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) will be co-hosting the Eastern Cape Green Energy Week. Other partnering organisations to the week include ESKOM, the Nelson Mandela Business Chamber and the Regional Innovation Forum. The green energy week is taking place in Uitenhage at the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Science & Technology Centre from 28 July to 31 July and concludes with a tour of House Rhino at Crossways Farm Village on 1 August 2014.
This programme is in line with DEDEAT’s mandated objective of promoting the sustainable energy sector through among others providing platforms for dialogue and information sharing.
"We view this as a great platform for crowding in activities in partnership with key role players. Together we can work on innovative approaches for growing a provincial green economy,” says the MEC for Finance and Economic Development, Environmental Affairs & Tourism, Mr Sakhumzi Somyo.
“There is no doubt in our minds that the sustainable energy sector will deliver substantial economic benefits and create much-needed jobs for the province,” adds Somyo.
In particular, the Green Energy Week will contribute to “enhancing the DEDEAT strategic priorities through focusing on skills development and learner awareness as a fundamental enabler for creating a thriving and vibrant sustainable energy sector,” says Somyo.
SAEE President Karel Steyn says: the SAEE Eastern Cape Energy Efficiency Conference is an important energy event of regional scope for end users and energy professionals in all areas of the energy field, building towards a better country and Southern Africa.
