The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) led by the GPL Speaker Hon. Lindiwe Maseko, will launch the nation-wide Sector Oversight Model (SOM). The South African Legislative Sector Model was developed in consultation with various stakeholders by the National Speakers’ Forum with Hon. Lindiwe Maseko as the project champion. A first of its kind, SOM was developed as a standard model to be used by South African Parliament and Legislatures as a mechanism to hold Government accountable.
The SOM launch coincides with a House Sitting where GPL Committees will table various crucial reports including:
- Community Safety Portfolio Committee: Nyaope Campaign Report.
- COGTA and Human Settlement Committee: fourth Quarterly Report on COGTA and Human Settlement Department’s 2012/13 financial year.
- Health Portfolio Committee: FIS report on Folateng Private Wards.
- Roads and Transport Portfolio Committee: fourth Quarterly report on the Gautrain Management Agency for 2012/13 financial year.
The House Sitting will precede the Sector Oversight Model (SOM) road-show launch, taking place at the GPL Auditorium in the afternoon. Furthermore, on the same day GPL will host an Information Centre Open Day showcasing and exhibiting Information & Knowledge Management (IKM) services and products. The Sitting, convened by the Speaker and MPLs, will be attended by among others: the Gauteng Premier; MECs; community members; and other government executives.
Details of the day are as follows:
