A historic old age day care centre to be opened by Government in Swayimane
The safety of the elderly will soon be drastically improved, thanks to the Department of Social Development’s Day Care Centres for senior citizens which will be built throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
The first multi-million rand day care centre will be officially opened on Friday, 17th of July 2015 by the Minister for Social Development Ms Bathabile Dlamini, MEC for Social Development, Mrs Weziwe Thusi and the First Lady Thobeka Madiba-Zuma in Swayimane, which made headlines across the country with the horrific incidents of the rape of elderly women. Four elderly women aged between 82 and 94 were raped there in a short space of time, prompting the department to build a day care centre.
The Day Care facilities will be sanctuaries for the elderly, reducing the time they spend alone during the day which makes them soft targets for brazen criminals. More day care centres will be built throughout the province. The official opening in Swayimane will take place as follows:
Date: 17 July 2015
Venue: Nkululeko School Sports Ground, Swayimane (Umshwathi Municipality, Ward 12)
