On the 31 October – 01 November 2017, as part of its Constitutional mandate the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) will be holding investigative hearings into gender transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning in South Africa. The Commission conducts these hearings to ascertain the extent of progress made and the challenges faced by institutions of higher learning in promoting gender transformation. In particular, the investigations will probe current internal policies, systems, programmes and relevant strategies put in place by these institutions to ensure effective gender transformation.
One Institution of Higher Learning will be appearing before the Commission to account of their gender transformation programmes and activities.
These institutions are:
- 31 October 2017 – University of Free State
- 01 November 2017 – University of Stellenbosch
The Commission will use this platform to recommend interventions that will propel these institutions further in their transformation targets. It is also an opportunity to unearth best practices that can be adopted by other institutions.
