Gender Equality holds hearings on Gender Transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning, 23 to 24 Nov

On 23 – 24 November 2015, as part of its Constitutional mandate the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) will be holding investigative hearings into gender transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning in South Africa.

The Commission is embarking on these hearings to ascertain the extent of progress made and the challenges faced by institutions of higher learning in promoting gender transformation. In particular the investigations will probe current internal policies, systems, programmes and relevant strategies put in place by these institutions to ensure effective gender transformation, including the challenges.

 Three Institutions of Higher Learning (i.e. University of Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology and University of North West) will be appearing before the Commission to give an account of their gender transformation programmes and activities.

The institutions will be appearing on the following dates:

  • 23 November 2015 – University of Pretoria
  • 23 November 2015 – University of North West
  • 24 November 2015 – Tshwane University of Technology

It is anticipated that the hearings will enable the Commission to get better understanding of the internal policies, programmes and strategies put in place by these institutions to promote and advance gender transformation.
