Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosts School Sport Awards, 21 Feb

Finalists for revived Gauteng School Sport Awards announced

The stage is now set for the School Sport Awards to be held this Friday, with the list of the finalists now made public.

The awards will be held under the theme celebrating Today’s Stars, Tomorrow’s Champions.

The Gauteng School Sport Awards are being reintroduced this year after they were last held in 2002. Moroka Swallows midfield maestro Lerato Chabangu was one of the winners at the last awards, he went on to play for several PSL teams and has represented the national football team.

Another noteworthy recipient of the award is long jump and triple jump star Khotso Mokoena, who was honoured as Secondary Sports Boy of the Year in 2002. Mokoena went on to win a Silver Medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing among several other international achievements.

Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Lebogang Maile has endorsed the awards as an important mechanism to identify, recognise and honour developing talent, and to encourage youth at primary and secondary schools to participate in various sporting codes.
