The Gauteng Department of Social Development will raise awareness on the rights and protection of older persons after the brutal murder of three elderlies that were allegedly suspected of witchcraft by the Sebokeng community recently.
Suffering from dementia, memory loss and neglect that result in them wandering the streets, older persons are at perpetual risk of being routed by family members and by communities that associate ageing with witchcraft. In an attempt to address such, the department will launch a campaign that mobilizes communities to identify domestic abuse of older persons, encourage active participation and offer emotional and all forms of support.
Participants include civil society institutions like NGO/NPOs, Faith-based, Youth Organisations and many structures that can help address this scourge.
The details of the event will be as follows:
Venue: Koinonia Bible Church, Sebokeng
Date: 17 June 2015
Time: 9h00
