Lead SA, with the support of the National Department of Transport, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), The Road Accident Fund (RAF), the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport (GDRT) and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) as well as civil society groups, will be placing coffins on the highway from 6am to 6pm in an attempt to change behavior on our roads and create awareness.
An average of 47 people die on South Africa’s roads each day and 47 coffins will line a section of the N14 West (direction Krugersdorp) near the Lanseria airport turn off for the day, supported by vehicle checks.
Media is invited to join Minister of Transport, Dipou Peters; MEC Ismail Vadi from GDRT, Sello Lemao from City of Joburg, Lead SA and other civil society stakeholders for a briefing on the urgent interventions that need to be made to curb the carnage on our roads.
The event takes place as follows:
Date: Thursday, 19 March 2015
Time: 15h00 for 15h30
Venue: N14 West, between Total filling station and the Lanseria turnoff. Parking at the filling station.
