Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) will tomorrow conduct an emergency evacuation tunnel drill for Gautrain. The drill will be undertaken in conjunction with the Emergency Services of Joburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni and Bombela Operating Company as primary responders and role-players. The exercise will be taking place during the Engineering Hours during the shutdown phase at night between 22h00 and 04h00.
The exercise will help prepare Disaster Management and Fire and Rescue services personnel for the variety of challenges, which may be encountered when dealing with underground incidents.
The PDMC falls under the Provincial department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in Gauteng.
