Gauteng Premier to declare the grave of Sam Ntuli a provincial heritage site

Gauteng Premier, Mr David Makhura, will declare the gravesite of the late Mr. Sam Ntuli a provincial heritage site before delivering his maiden State of the Province Address in Thokoza on Friday, 27 June 2014. Mr Ntuli, a civic leader and unionist, who contributed immensely to the struggle against apartheid, was gunned down at the height of political violence in 1991.

The programme will start at 07h00 at the Skoeman Cemetery, after which Premier and the Ntuli family will observe a moment of silence at the spot where Mr Ntuli was assassinated.

Journalists wishing to cover the event are required to submit their names for accreditation purposes to morati.sethabela@gauteng.gov.za or 072 633 1436 by 25 June 2014.

Accreditation cards can be collected at Office of the Premier, 30 Simmonds street, Marshaltown from 25 to 26 June from 10h00 - 15h00.

Please note:

  • Journalist who are accredited for the opening of the Legislature have to get accreditation for this programme as well, as these are two separate programmes.
  • All journalists are required to park their cars at Sam Ntuli Sport Complex, where shuttle service between the cemetery and the Legislature precinct. No vehicles will be allowed at the cemetery and the Legislature precinct.
