The Public Hearing will be held as follows:
Date: Saturday, 12 September 2015
Time: 10h00
Venue: Lord Khanyile Hall, Ivory Park, Johannesburg
The purpose of the Amendment Bill is to modify the Medicines and Related Substances Act by reviewing certain expressions and definitions. The Bill further establishes and provides for objects and functions of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority as an organ of State within the public administration but outside the public service.
The Amendment Bill further seeks to:
- Replace the technical Council with a Board that will perform governance and fiduciary functions;
- Define the functions and responsibilities of the Board; and
- Provide for a reduced duplication of effort through recognising work done by other regulators and vice versa, by including an enabling clause in the statute.
The Amendment Bill is a Section 76 Bill, as it affects Provinces.
The Health Committee invites all Gauteng Citizens who will be in attendance to prepare written submissions which will be received by the Committee on the day of the Hearing.
