Gauteng Legislature honours International Children’s Day, 1 Jun

The Honourable Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Ntombi Mekgwe in collaboration with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China invite you to a special donation programme for school children where 300 resources will be donated to learners in Soweto.

The event is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: 1 June 2015
Time: 9h00
Venue: Emdeni Secondary School, 1817 Zamukulungisa Street, Emdeni Ext, Soweto

The purpose of this event is to pay special attention to children in less privileged schools. This is part of commemorating International Children’s Day which does not only celebrate their protection, but also pays special attention to their welfare in society. This program responds to goals set by the United Nations’ (UN) General Secretary, Ban Kimoon, which call for every child to attend school, the improvement of skills acquired by children at schools, and the improvement of skill sets acquired at schools. The UN goals also call for the implementation of policies regarding education to promote peace, respect and environmental concern.

It is in response to this call that the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and other leaders of Chinese communities in Gauteng took it upon themselves to collaborate with the GPL to identify a well-deserving school to donate to. The Emdeni Secondary School will receive 300 sets of school bags, stationery, shoes and jackets as part of the donation.

Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in Gauteng, Mr Panyaza Lesufi; Consulate General from the People’s Republic of China Dr Sun Dali; Speaker of City of Johannesburg, Cllr Connie Bapela; MEC for Social Development in Gauteng, Ms Faith Mazibuko, Members of the Health and Social Development Committees in the GPL and Leaders of the Chinese Communities in Gauteng will be in in attendance.
