Gauteng Human Settlements and City of Joburg to hand over Jabulani Community Residential Units
Gauteng Human Settlements Department and the City of Johannesburg Housing Department will hold a joint ceremony for the allocation of the Jabulani Community Residential Units (CRU) Housing Project on Tuesday, 11 March 2014 in Jabulani, Soweto.
The day will also see the demolition of one block of the residential hostel units in Jabulani just next to the new and family friendly residential units where hostel dwellers will be moved to. The demolition will take place at 07:00 and the actual allocation will start at 09:00.
The 487 million community housing and RDP development was first launched to much fanfare by the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa Mr K Motlanthe on 29 March 2012. The project is a partnership between the City of Johannesburg, National Department of Human Settlements, Gauteng Provincial Government and property developer Calgro M3. The project comprises of 1 919 rental housing stock and fully subsidised RDP housing units. The units are meant to cater for the gap market, people earning no more than R3 500 who do not qualify for a government subsidy for an RDP house or earn too little to get a bank loan.
