Gauteng hosts e-Government summit on information technology, 2 to 3 Nov

Gauteng focuses on information technology to improve service delivery

The newly created Department of e-Government will convene a two-day summit at Gallagher Convention Centre on 02-03 November 2015.

The e-Government Summit will be attended by over 500 senior industry executives, local and international experts, as well as representatives from all government tiers and sector organisations.

The aim is to discuss the implementation of ICT initiatives that will result in the improvement of front-line service delivery to citizens, while also stimulating the province’s knowledge-based economy in order to create jobs. This is in line with the e-Government Strategy of the Gauteng City Region.

To date Gauteng has made notable progress in implementing e-Government initiatives. These includes, amongst other things, the roll-out of the Gauteng Broadband Network(GBN), the  online Invoicing System, and the Free Wi-Fi Zone (FIZ) rollout programme by the cities has also commenced to address the issue of broad access to digital services.

The usage of these and other technologies to implement government processes is helping the Gauteng City Region to transform and innovate across all areas of public service delivery system. Therefore, the e-Government Summit will build on this momentum in order to create a “Connected Gauteng City Region for Modern and Faster Public Services”
