Gauteng Health commemorates those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS

The Gauteng Department of Health will remember those who have lost their lives to HIV and AIDS related illnesses at a candlelight memorial service in Meyerton on Sunday, 18 May 2014.

Under the theme, Let’s keep the light on HIV, the aim of this event is to create awareness around the need for care and support to AIDS patients and the affected families and to inform the community about prevention, treatment, care and support services available for people living with the disease.

The event will further look at ways to alleviate the stigma of HIV and AIDS and to work towards the pledge of a world without AIDS.

During the commemoration, those who care for people who are infected and affected by HIV and Aids such as community health workers will be praised and encourage to continue with their efforts to provide emotional and physical healing.

Journalists are invited to attend the commemoration.
