The Gauteng Department of e-Government, Research and Development, in partnership with Microsoft, will host the Gauteng Cyber Security Summit on Friday, 09 October 2026, bringing together government leaders, cybersecurity experts, technology specialists and key stakeholders to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime.
The summit comes as October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month, highlighting the need for stronger cybersecurity measures as more government services and citizens increasingly depend on digital platforms.
The discussions will focus on cyber threats and emerging risks, protection of government data and systems, incident response and digital resilience, cybersecurity awareness and skills development, and the role of public-private partnerships in combating cybercrime.
Gauteng e-Gov MEC Bonginkosi Dhlamini says recent cybersecurity incidents have demonstrated the need for government to remain constantly prepared.
“The recent security incident has reinforced an important lesson that cybersecurity cannot be treated as a once-off exercise. As we put more government services online, we must continuously test, monitor and strengthen our systems. Our responsibility is not only to provide digital services, but to ensure that residents can trust those services and that their information is protected”, said MEC Dhlamini.
