The planting of over 2 000 trees in various areas of Lesedi Municipality is underway as part of government’s commitment to increase environmental and conservation awareness in communities.
The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) in partnership with Lesedi Municipality will celebrate Arbour Day by planting trees in the municipality areas such as the Ratanda Old Age Home and community hall. Municipality officials have been hard at work since last week and have so far planted over 200 trees on streets such Akasia and Denne Avenue.
Half of these trees are fruit trees, including peach, apricot, apple and orange trees, to promote food security and a healthy, nutritious diet.
To enhance the event, GDARD’s Veterinary Services unit will sterilise pets on the day.
The media is invited to the Arbor Week celebration.
