Free State Sports and Recreation hosts Dlala Mantombazana Girls Tournament, 15 Aug

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in partnership with the Department of Education in consultation with Provincial School Sport Codes, will be hosting the Provincial Top School Finals for Girls namely Dlala Mantombazana Girls Tournament.

The Provincial Top School Girls Finals is a culmination of the District top schools finals hosted by the four districts and the Mangaung Metro.

The tournament started at local schools as Intra-Schools tournaments to select teams at school level and proceeds to Inter-Schools, regional, municipal and district finals. These schools will represent the district at the Provincial Finals called Dlala Mantombazana Girls Finals.

The Girls Tournament coincides with the National Women’s Month Celebration thus this tournament is dedicated to the emancipation of women by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

The tournament is played by all the District school winners and the Metro municipality in the following codes of sport:

  • Basketball U/13 & U/18
  • Football U/13 & U/18
  • Chess U/13, U/15 & U/18
  • Volleyball U/13 & U/17

The winning school will then be exposed to the Local Talent Development Centre’s at district level for Athlete Development Programme to prepare the teams for the National Schools Championships to be held in Pretoria.

Athletes will also have an opportunity to be selected for the R 100 000.00 National Minister Bursary for best performance.

“As part of the Department’s vision and commitment, in line with the ultimate goal of empowering women in South Africa, this tournament will ensure that girls are made aware and prepared for greatness from a young age”, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs Mathabo Leeto stated.

The tournament will be hosted in Qwaqwa as follows:

Date: Saturday, 15 August 2015
Time: 8h00
Venue: Seotlong Agricultural School: Chess, University of the Free State, Qwaqwa Campus: Football, Phuthaditjhaba Stadium: Volleyball and Basketball.
