The programme has been developed with the sole purpose to encourage girls’ participation in sport. This year the programme will also facilitate the participation of girls with disabilities. The programme has been renamed as part of the centenary celebration of Mama Albertina Nontsikelelo Sisulu.

Participants will take part in 4 sport codes, namely: Netball, Softball, Table tennis and Basketball. The Albertina Sisulu Games will take place as follows:

Date:  25 August 2018
Venue:  Sasolburg High School and Harry Gwala Multi-Purpose center
Time: 08H00

The games will be officially opened on the evening of 24 August 2018 with a function to welcome all participants, with the main games commencing the following day. The event is expected to be addressed by the Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, the Free State MEC for Education, the Mayor of Metsimaholo Local Municipality as well as the Mayor Fezile Dabi District Municipality.

“In recognition of the Girl Child during Women’s Month, the Department organised the Albertina Sisulu Games in Sasolburg this year. This programme plays a critical role in promoting the participation of women in sport. As we celebrate Women’s month  in  August,  let  us  not  forget  that  well-adjusted  young  women  must  find  guidance from an early age. It is with this in mind that this programme addresses activities for young women and girls”, said MEC Mathabo Leeto.

Your media house is invited to attend this event.
