Free State Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosts Youth Games, 23 Jun

DSACR to host Youth Games

The month of June in South Africa is inherently synonymous with the 1976 student uprisings which started taking place on 16 June 1976 and subsequently spread out throughout the length and breadth of South Africa. It is for this reason that 16 June is observed on our national calendar as Youth Day and thus the entire month of June is hailed as Youth Month in our country. It is against this background that the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) in partnership with Setsoto Local Municipality will host Youth Games as part of the commemoration for the class of 1976.

The DSACR Youth Games will take place as follows:

Date: 23 June2018
Time: 09:00 AM
Venue: Meqheleng Stadium, Ficksburg

The DSACR Youth Games will feature former Premier Soccer League (PSL) players who will conduct soccer clinics to local schools’ clubs, a motivational talk and performances by local artists and DJs. It is also expected that as part of the highlight of the DSACR Youth Games, former PSL players will have a match against the Setsoto XI.

Speaking about the DSACR Youth Games, MEC Mathabo Leeto stated that, “The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will host Youth Games as part of the commemorations for Youth Month. The Class of 1976 exposed the brutality of the apartheid regime to the world and ignited resistance around the country. Forty-one years later young people must help to keep their legacy alive by taking advantage of opportunities to build our country and change their lives. Young people should join the ranks of active and responsible citizens by participating in democratic structures and processes. They should cherish and jealously protect schools, libraries and centres for learning.”

Your media house is invited to attend this event.
