Free State Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosts Provincial Golden Games, 8 to 9 Sept

Part of the mission statement of the department states the following as one of the objectives: “Implementing inclusive programmes that enhance and retain Free State talent and capacity within sport, arts, culture and recreation as well as ensuring developmental pathways towards healthy lifestyles and excellence.”

As part of the request to realise the above mission the department has also given  special attention to senior citizens through the staging of the annual Golden Games, otherwise known as the Senior Citizens Games.

The games involve senior citizens from the age of 60 years and are a provincial preparatory stage for the National Golden Games festival. Selected players will represent the Free State Province at National level from 22 October - 31 October 2015 in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape Province.

The following Sporting Codes will be played as part of the games:

1. Duck walk (females and/or males)
2. Dress-up (females and/or males)
3. Passing the ball (females and/or males)
4. 100m Run (female and male) 60-69 and 70+
5. 200m Run (female and male) 60-69 and 70+
6. 400m Run (female and male) 60-69 and 70+
7. 500m Brisk Walk (female and male) 60 to69 and 70+
8. 800m Run (female and male) 60-69 and 70+
9. 400m Relay (female and male)
10. Rugby ball Throw (female and male) 60-69 and 70+
11. Jukskei (females and/or males) 60-69 and 70+
12. Ring the stick (females and/or males)
13. Ball Pass and Kick (females and/or males)
14. Ball Relay (females and/or males)
15. Goal Shooting (females and/or males)
16. Pegging Washing Pegs (only wheel chair bound) (females and/or males)
17. Soccer - Males
18. Soccer - Females

The games will be staged in partnership with the Department of Social Development, Department of Health, Office of the Premier, Age in Action, Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality, Maluti A Phofung Municipality and the Provincial Golden Games Committee as follows:

Date: 8 to 9 September 2015
Venue: Phuthaditjhaba Stadium
Times: 14h00 on the 8th September 2015
9h00 on the 9th September 2015

Football for both males and females will be played on a different date as follows:
Date: 15 and 16 September 2015
Venue: Reitz
Time: 9h00
