Free State Sport and Recreation Department to host marathon as part of development plan

The vision of Community Revival Plan is to provide young people, men and women in Thaba Patchoa with the opportunity to play an active role in the development of their own community. It offers them access to the appropriate organizational skills and training to empower them to build a brighter, sustainable future for themselves and their community.

This further enables the community to be viable and able to attract more developmental funding for the betterment of the community. The plan is premised on the central involvement of the community in the process, as we see this as essential to the sustainability aspect of the program. The local citizens improve their own living environment by establishing more registered community based organizations ranging from religious, social, humanitarian, charitable and cooperatives.

Through their involvement in these processes, community development skills are transferred to them which empower these men and women to take charge of their community’s wellbeing. These community based organisations are the community’s key to sustainable development and ensure the continuing availability of improved community livelihood.

To help promote the department’s development program, a winter marathon will be hosted in Thaba Patchoa, to promote social cohesion and nation building in the community.

The Marathon will be hosted as follows:

Date: Saturday, 6 July 2013
Time: 10h00
Venue: Thaba Patchoa Community Library

Your media house is invited to cover the event.
