The Free State Province to join the globe to celebrate the life of Former President Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela

phe Free State province led by Premier Ace Magashule has joined millions of people around the globe to celebrate the life of our freedom icon, Former President Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela.

In line with the spirit of doing good to the disadvantaged people, the Free State Government resolved that it will make each day a Nelson Mandela Day and that all work done in the weeks leading up to the 18 July, which is declared as International Nelson Mandela Day will be dedicated to doing good to the people of the province in the name of Nelson Mandela.

The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. Ultimately it seeks to empower communities everywhere. The Nelson Mandela Day events will be celebrated under the theme - “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day”.

The Free State 2013 Nelson Mandela Week Programme is as follows:

Date: Thursday, 18 July 2013
Time: 08h00
First venue: Opening of houses in Phuthaditjhaba in QwaQwa

Time: 10h00
First venue: Mandela Career Guidance Festival at Lere La Tshepe FET College in QwaQwa

The Free State Provincial Government is working together with the Department of Higher Education in a Mandela Career Guidance Festival to be attended by more than 6000 learners at Maluti FET College - Lere La Tshepe Campus.

The primary purpose of the Mandela Career Guidance Festival is to expose the previously disadvantaged learners to educational opportunities as well as impart knowledge and information on how to access various models of funding their studies at institutions of higher learning. This festival is targeting Grade 10 to 12 learners.

The National Skills Fund and many other strategic partners have made commitments to mentor and inspire learners who are potentially higher education candidates of the future. The Free State province and the Department of Higher Education have noticed over time that the bulk of developmental challenges of our country lie in the wrong career choices that our learners fall into as a result of a lack of a dedicated Career Guidance Programme in our schools.
