Free State Government to host Chinese Taipei Women’s Tug of War team

In August 2013, the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, in partnership with South African Sports Confederation Council (SASCOC), launched the National Training Centre (NTC) in Bloemfontein as South Africa’s top training facility for top class athletes.

The primary objective of the Centre is to ensure that national and international athletes receive the best possible training and conditioning in preparation of national and international sport competitions.

The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Dan Kgothule, is happy to announce that the Chinese Taipei Women’s Tug of War Team based at the Taipei Jingmei Girls High School (previous World Champions), will be visiting South Africa from 31 March to 13 April 2014.

The primary purpose of the visit will be to exchange training and coaching information with their South African counterparts, while they explore South African Culture. The NTC in Bloemfontein will be the training ground for the team while they are in the Free State.

The 17 member Chinese Taipei contingent will arrive in Johannesburg on Monday 31 March 2014 and be joined by a 14 member South African squad to be hosted at a welcome dinner by SASCOC.

The group will depart for Bloemfontein on Tuesday 1 April 2014, and be hosted by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation at the NTC, culminating in a Tug of War competition between the Chinese Taipei team and the South African Women’s team on Saturday 5 April 2014 at Tempe, Bloemfontein.
