Free State Freedom Day celebration

The Free State will stage the Freedom Day celebration as follows:

Date: Friday, 26 April 2013
Time: 10h00
Venue:  Free State Cricket Stadium (Bloemfontein)

The celebration will thus take place on 26 April and not on the usual day of 27 April. The celebration will take place under the theme: “Mobilising society towards consolidating our Democracy and Freedom."

Uppermost in the celebration will be the promotion of unity and a common agenda of building a united and prosperous South Africa. Activities will promote the National Development Plan as a long term vision which should serve as a basis for partnerships across society to attain the South Africa that is articulated in the constitution and historic national documents such as the Freedom Charter of 1955.

The celebrations will recognise and celebrate the strides that have been made since 1994 as we head towards 20 years of freedom and democracy, acknowledging that South Africa is a far better society than it was before 1994.

Communities from across the racial spectrum are being mobilised to be part of this provincial celebration which will be characterised by:

  • parade constituted by Open Bus, Motorbikes, Horses, Drum Majorettes and Police Brass Band;
  • police/Military tactical manoeuvres demonstrations and fly past;
  • freedom day Messages from learners from across the racial spectrum;
  • cultural/Music performances by local and national artists from across the racial spectrum.

About 15 000 members of the community are expected to attend the celebration.

Your media house is cordially invited to attend and cover the event.
