The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) will be launching the Free State Youth Green Economy Programme in support of the June Month Activities.
This will assist youth to form themselves into cooperatives in line with government procurement policy, so as to benefit in Green Economy related projects and programme and also to facilitate mentorship and development opportunities platforms for the youth with big companies like Eskom, Sparta Telkom, Sasol firm and other companies for full empowerment within the economic development space.
The resolutions to be taken at this Youth Green Economy Launch on the 5th June 2013 will feed into the planned youth outreach programme which will be discussed during Youth Indaba report back event which will be held during the end of June 2013.
The Youth Green Economy Programme objectives are:
- Provide training to graduate and undergraduate youth on Green Economy through partnership formation with tertiary institutions and related SITAs.
- Assist youth in setting up their Green Economy related businesses and cooperatives.
- Mobilise financial resources for funding youth Green Economy establishments by amongst others partnering Youth companies and cooperatives with big business to participate fully in the main stream economy.
- Provide mentorship and coaching in business development, management and sustenance
- Link youth Green enterprises to potential markets (locally and internationally) through funding institutions.
- Create partnerships between youth Green Economy enterprises and all spheres of government to ensure prioritized and dedicated support through department of Trade and Industry partnership information scheme.
- Create sustainable jobs for the youth of Free State where in companies like Eskom Sasol can mentor Youth companies/ cooperatives in development business ventures e.g. in waste recycling economy and renewable energy.
Free State province will be the first to launch Youth Green Economy programme in the country.
