Free State Environmental Affairs hosts 2015 Annual Game Auction, 10 to 11 Apr

Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve will come to life with the echo of the auctioneer hammer when Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs host the 2015 Annual Game Auction from the 10th to 11th April 2015. 2 245 animals will be sold to the highest bidders at the annual auction. The auction will be catalogue based and is divided into hunting packages and live animals.

This year the department put on auction 69 hunting packages, 690 live and 1 378 game carcass packages. During his 2015/16 budget vote speech, MEC Mosebenzi Zwane said “In order to improve on revenue collection, the department continues to contribute handsomely to the provincial fiscus through the proceeds of excess game. Last year, we generated more than R13 million with the sale of game and this year we hope to do even better.”

To enhance revenue, henceforth the department will host two auctions, the normal game auction in April 2015 and the elite auction for Buffalo and Sable at the end of May.

As part of the festivities there will be a marathon and bicycle race on Saturday at 8h00 as well as numerous vendor stalls, beer garden, different food outlets and lots of music. 1 500 buyers and other visitors will be expected at the auction to enjoy at the Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve which is situated 20 km south of Ventersburg and 130km north of Bloemfontein along the Allemanskraal Dam.

The Free State provincial owns game valued at R50 million in its 14 reserves throughout the Free State.
