Free State Economic Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs hosts round table meeting, 16 Nov

FS provincial research advisory committee to engage on how to boost agriculture sector

Department of Economic Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs through Free State Provincial Research Advisory Committee will host a Round Table discussion to discuss Agriculture, its contribution to the GDP, employment creation, challenges, growth forecast and recommendations.

Despite Agriculture being one of the prioritised sectors as per the Free State Growth and Development Strategy (FSGDS) and also part of the President’s Stimulus Package, the provincial sector recorded the highest loss in employment as compared to other economic sectors during the 2nd quarter of 2018. Even with the decline and the fact that the province is no longer heavily reliant on the Agricultural sector, the sector still displays immense potential required to boost the provincial economy.

For accurate and recent information on Agriculture and for evidence-based decision making, the following stakeholders will participate in the discussions; National Department of Agriculture, Provincial Departments of Agriculture, Premier, Cogta, Treasury, African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA), Free State Agriculture, Land Bank, University of Free State(Faculty of Agriculture), Central University of Technology, Motheo TVET College, Agricultural Research Council, African Farmers Association of South Africa

The event will take place as follows:
Date: 16 November 2018
Venue: OR Tambo Building (8th Floor)
Time: 09:00

Members of the media are invited.
