Free State Arts and Culture hosts Sesotho Literature Museum Dialogue 6, 12 Jun

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation’s, through its Sesotho Literature Museum (SLM), in collaboration with Lesedi FM, will host SLM in Dialogue 6 in a consultative workshop format, on Friday,12 June 2015. The theme for this 6th dialogue is: “Paballo/ Poloko ya Sesotho ka Dingolwa”.

SLM in Dialogue 6 aims to:

monitor and follow up on the developments made and resolutions taken in the previous five dialogues
explore ways with which Literature preserves and develops Sesotho language

This Dialogue will also be used in tandem with other approaches to achieve the outcomes of indicators as stipulated in the Department’s Annual Performance Plan (APP) which are to, among other things, enhance the following:

  • Number of people visiting facilities (SLM).
  • Number of outreach programmes staged.
  • Number of exhibitions held.

The Dialogue will comprehensively discuss and cover among others, the following issues:

  • Resolutions made in the previous Literature Dialogues the museum has had with the literary communities since 2013.
  • Drawing inputs and resolutions towards ways with which Literature preserves and develops Sesotho language
  • Appropriate use of Sesotho language in various spheres
  • Encouraging new titles of good quality to library shelves.
  • New collection to Sesotho Literary Museum

This consultative workshop will benefit writers to write from an informed, researched point of view, thereby using appropriate language. Inputs will benefit the Lesedi FM broadcast content, from news bulletins to general programming, relating to good use of Sesotho, and the broadcast output that will benefit listeners immensely, and Sesotho experts from this radio station to present at the workshop.

In attendance, will be PanSALB, Lesedi FM, general Literary communities and the book analysis to be facilitated by, Dr MJ Mokhoane. There will be commissions for various subjects.

The SLM in Dialogue 6 will be hosted as follows:

“As part of the mandate of this department to promote and adhere to the Provincial Language Policy and to build literature in the province, it is of utmost importance that we support, promote and build previously marginalized languages. Sesotho is one of the official languages in the Free State Province, and therefore no effort must be spared to preserve and build the language,” Stated MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs Mathabo Leeto.
