The new Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Hon. Ntombi Mekgwe, will preside over the first Opening of the Fifth Legislature on 27 June 2014. This sitting will provide a platform for the new Gauteng Premier, Hon. David Makhura, to deliver his very first State of the Province Address (SOPA) - informing GPL and the people of Gauteng about the Provincial Government’s programme of action and service delivery priorities for the year ahead.
The official opening has been scheduled to take place as follows:

The hosting of the opening in Ekurhuleni is part of GPL’s efforts to take Parliament to the people. This is aimed at affording people of Gauteng an opportunity to participate and engage on matters concerning the governance of their Province. GPL will engage with stakeholders on its mandates of Law-making; Oversight; Public Participation and the
Budget Process in Gauteng to assist the Provincial Government deliver on its commitments.
The event will kick-start with a red carpet session at 09h00 which will include cultural activities; a ceremonial parade; photo opportunities; as well as other social interactions. The Premier’s State of the Province Address delivery is scheduled to commence at 10h00. Media will be allowed an opportunity for Q and A with the Speaker and the Premier once House proceedings are concluded.
Members of the media are required to be accredited to attend the proceedings by forwarding their full details including name and surname, ID numbers and name of the media outlet. Closing date for RSVPs is 19 June 2014.
Please note: There wil be no accreditation on the day of the event; and no entry will be permitted without valid accreditation. Accreditation photocards can be collected from 23 to 26 June 2014 at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, corner Loveday and President Street, Johannesburg, CBD.
