Date: 30 April 2014
Time: 09h30

Background

The launch of the KwaZakhele community project follows after Minister Nxesi recently visited Ward 20 in Port Elizabeth.  During the visit the community apprised Minister Nxesi about the inadequate service delivery in the area. One of the issues that was identified was high local unemployment. Subsequently Minister proposed this intervention.

This project will create 200 work opportunities for the beneficiaries through Home Community Based Care (HCBC), Community Gardening and Cleaning services.

This project is spearheaded by the EPWP Non State Sector in partnership with the Non- Profit Organisations (NPOs). Since 2009 the EPWP has constantly increased its capacity to create massive job opportunities. To this end EPWP identified Non Profit Organizations as partners as they are strategically positioned to augment government’s capacity to deliver services to the people.

During the launch, the Minister will also visit the Home Community Based Care and the School Gardening Project in the area.
