His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, cordially invites the media to the hand-over of the Transformative River Management Programme (TRMP). The C40 City Finance Facility has actively supported eThekwini Municipality in developing the TRMP for the past four years. The TRMP is a ten to fifteen-year programme of investing in the city’s rivers as a core component of transformative adaptation that will help to mitigate the impacts of climate change (including increased flood events, such as those of April and May 2022), upscale job creation and skills development, and build stronger communities and implementation partnerships.
The hand over is three-fold from the C40 CFF to:
- The municipality in terms of a business plan and implementation framework now completed
- The GIZ Climate Support Programme which will continue to support eThekwini Municipality in raising large scale donor funding for the implementation of the TRMP
- AFD, the French agency for international development which is funding detailed planning and partnership-building work on key river catchments through its CICLIA fund
The significance of this project is global in nature and is a lighthouse for many cities facing similar challenges. This handover comes at a time when eThekwini Municipality and the broader KwaZulu-Natal province are in the process of rebuilding lives and the economy following the recent devastating floods.
Details of the event is as follows:

Time: 14h00
