The Department of Employment and Labour in Mpumalanga will wrap off Workers’ month by conducting a week long blitz inspections on Mpumalanga government departments around Ehlanzeni district.
The purpose of the Blitz to be conducted by the Department’s Inspection Enforcement Services (IES) during this period will be:
- To advocate through inspections on OHS Act and its regulation to government departments in Ehlanzeni area (Mbombela, Malelane, Barberton, Sabie and Graskop),
- To examine how national labour standards are applied in the workplace,
- To educate and advise social partners on labour market policies,
- To examine how section 10(8) of the National Disaster Management Act 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002) issued by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs as well as covid-19 directive issued by the Minister of Employment and Labour are applied in the workplaces.
This will assist the broader workforce in government and community services sector to be aware of their rights in the Labour market and should lead to improvement in compliance with employment laws as well as sound labour relations.
The department aims for a labour market which is conducive to investment, economic growth, employment creation and decent work.
