National agricultural sector briefing and pledge signing
The Electoral Commission will host a national briefing with the agricultural sector comprising worker representatives and farmers’ associations. The purpose of the briefing is to engage the agricultural sector on the Electoral Commission’s vision and work, especially ahead of the 2014 National and Provincial elections.
The Electoral Commission first met with the agricultural sector ahead of the 2004 National and Provincial elections primarily to ensure that all workers were able to register and vote freely. A pledge was signed between the parties to establish a working relationship. All parties will reaffirm their commitment to this relationship with the re-signing of the pledge in 2014.
Over the years, ongoing collaboration between the Electoral Commission and the agricultural sector has greatly contributed to deepening democratic participation of all South Africans in the agricultural sector. The Electoral Commission invites the media to witness the continuation and extension of this collaboration ahead of the 2014 national and provincial elections.
