Economic Development Committee to host stakeholder engagement workshop

The Economic Development Portfolio Committee of the Gauteng Legislature will host a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on informal trading at the City Hall in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 27 February 2013.

The theme of the workshop is: Creating an enabling environment for informal traders as contributors to local economic development and growth’. The focus of the workshop will be to strengthen economic opportunities for informal traders in the province and propose a provincial legislative framework that aims to regulate, promote and enhance informal trade. Envisaged outcomes of the workshop are to discover amicable ways of dealing with the concerns raised by informal traders and to find ways to mainstream informal traders into the formal economy.

The event will be attended by representatives from local municipalities, informal traders and experts in the field of informal trading.
