Eastern Cape Safety and Liaison hosts Safer School Programme in Umtata, 25 Feb

The Department of Safety and Liaison is stepping up the fight against crime in the Eastern Cape Province

The Department of Safety and Liaison as part of the February Safety Month Programme has begun to step up the fight against crime, in the Eastern Cape Province. In this regard, the OR Tambo District Office of the Department of Safety and Liaison, with other key stakeholders such as South African Police Service and the Department of Education, will host a Safer School Programme, in an effort to increase safety awareness among learners, in respect of the widespread criminal activities at Efata Special School in Umtata.

The Efata Special School, is hard hit by proliferating criminal activities such as drugs and substance abuse, which, have become a concern to the provincial government. The criminal activities at the school range from sexual abuse, murder, to gang activities such as bulling of learners by others.

Kindly note that MEC Weziwe Tikana together with the provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, and a host of other high profile figures will grace the programme with their presence.

In this regard, all members of the media fraternity are hereby invited to come to the massive programme to get first-hand information from the political leadership of the Eastern Cape Province. The details of the programme are as follows:
