Eastern Cape Safety and Liaison hosts Cleansing Ceremony in Engcobo, 17 to 18 Mar

Department of Safety and Liaison is unwavering in its resolve to root-out all criminal elements in Engcobo

The Department of Safety and Liaison will be hosting a massive Cleansing Ceremony in Engcobo in order to bring a closing chapter on the brutal killing of police officers most recently at Engcobo Police Station. The barbaric act of the killing of five police officers and a retired soldier, has been inextricably linked to the activities of the Seven Angels Church, which resembles a cult in the area. Therefore, the first part of the cleansing ceremony will be conducted by traditional healers (Sangomas naMaxhwele) whilst, the second leg will be an interdenominational service conducted by the South African Council of Churches (SACC).

The ultimate aim of this ceremony is to bring peace and stability to the area, so that criminal activities of this sort could be prevented from rearing their ugly heads again in the near future. Most importantly, to mobilize the members of the community to become integral partners of government in the fight against crime in the area.

Kindly note that the MEC for the Department of Safety and Liaison Ms. Weziwe Tikana, Engcobo Local Municipality Mayor L. Thyali, Acting Head of Department Mr Zukile Kani, Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntsinga as well as King Dalindyebo, will grace the programme with their presence and  a host of other high profile figures.
